A College Struggles: Harding College’s Journey to Integration

Abstract

In the fall of 1957, 946 students, faculty, staff, and other members of the Harding College community signed a statement of attitude expressing their desire for the school to allow African Americans to attend. It would take six more years before Harding college would fully integrate. This article looks at the pull between the desire of the different constituencies at Harding during this time.
