Scott Ragsdale, Ph.D., Ed.S.

I was blessed with the opportunity to join the Harding University Math and Computer Science Faculty in 1984. Prior to my teaching career, I worked for Delta Airlines as a computer programmer in Atlanta, Georgia for two years starting in 1982. I received my undergraduate (BBA - Management) and master's (MSE - Computer Science) degrees from Harding in 1981 and 1988 respectively. Focusing on Computer Science Education, I received a Ph.D in 2013 from Nova Southeastern University in Computing Technology in Education. My dissertation was entitled "Pursuing and Completing an Undergraduate Computing Degree from a Female Perspective: A Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis." Over the years, I have taught classes in programming using various languages, data structures, file structures, operating systems, object-oriented programming, and computer security. Also, I have taught the Computer Science capstone course since 1988. For the school years 2009-10 and 2014-15 I was honored to receive a Distinguished Teacher Award. I am also a proud member of the ACM Professional Society since 1995. I retired in the summer of 2024.

 

My hometown is Conyers, GA where I attended and graduated from Rockdale County High School in 1977. Following my graduation, I made the decision to come to Harding to further my education. The highlight of being an undergrad at Harding was meeting and eventually marrying in 1982 a fellow student, Janis Copeland. We have been blessed with two children, Candace Brooke (born in 1986) and Brandon Scott (born in 1989).
