About

Dr. Carpenter's Ph.D. work focuses on contemporary Southern identity and culture.  He teaches courses in Southern Literature and Culture, Film as Literature, African American Literature, and Literature of Faith, along with World Literature and composition and critical thinking. He leads an annual trip to New York City and Washington, D.C. for a cultural studies course and has taught at the Florence, Italy campus. In the summer, he teaches at Honors Symposium. He is also the director of Interdisciplinary Studies, which utilizes a purpose-driven approach where students choose concentrations to pursue an individualized program of study tailored to their goals and interests. In this capacity, he serves as academic advisor, program administrator, and professor of the courses Explorations of Career, Calling and Vocation, and Introduction to Interdisciplinary Studies, along with supervising capstone projects.
